Yes, there is a desktop helper app for EVE Frontier! EF Helper is a free Windows desktop application available on the Microsoft Store that bridges your in-game experience with the EF-Map web app.
Whether you're navigating complex routes, tracking mining operations, or monitoring combat activity, EF Helper brings real-time game data to your fingertips—both in a browser window and directly in-game via an overlay.
Update, October 2026: helper 1.2.0 redesigned the in-game overlay to match the EVE Frontier client. The route readout, the probe scanner and the helper's visited-systems tracking are gone; systems you visited now come from your game logs in the Log Parser. This guide describes the current helper.

Features Deep Dive
Follow Mode: Real-Time Location Sync
Follow Mode is the core feature that makes EF Helper indispensable for navigation. When enabled, the EF-Map web app automatically tracks your in-game position and keeps the 3D star map centered on your current system.
How it works: EF Helper monitors EVE Frontier's log files to detect when you jump to a new system. It then broadcasts your location to the web app via a local WebSocket connection. The map smoothly animates to your new position—typically within 200-500ms of the in-game jump.
Benefits:
- No more searching for your location after every jump
- Route progress updates automatically
- Visual confirmation of your position relative to waypoints
- Works seamlessly with complex multi-hop routes
In-Game Overlay: Your Session Without Alt-Tab
The in-game overlay draws inside EVE Frontier using DirectX 12. Since helper 1.2.0 it matches the look of the game client: a slim launcher bar opens separate windows, plus a Bookmark button that saves the system you are in to your EF-Map bookmarks while EF-Map is open in your browser.
Overlay windows:
- Mining: live mining rate, a per-minute chart and ore breakdown (more below)
- Combat: the live fight against your current target (more below)
- Today: a live log of what you did today with the day's totals
- Notes: synced with the Notes tab in EF-Map's EF Helper panel
- Settings: size, window opacity, the damage banner with a tone or voice, and whether the map follows you
Controls:
- Toggle visibility with a hotkey (configurable)
- Drag to reposition the overlay
- Adjust opacity and size in settings
Mining Telemetry Dashboard
For industrial pilots, EF Helper tracks your mining operations in real-time. The Mining window shows:
- Mining rate: units per minute over the last two minutes, plus the session total
- Mining rate chart: one column per minute for the last 30 minutes (hover a column for its time and amount)
- Ore breakdown: what you have mined, by ore type
All of this is read from the game logs on your PC. With helper 1.2 and later, the Mining tab in EF-Map's EF Helper panel shows the same view.
Combat Activity Tracking
EF Helper reads your combat logs, and the Combat window shows the live fight against your current target:
- Target and hull: the target and its estimated hull left against its HP
- Kills ≈: an estimated kill count. Cycle 7 logs have no kill line, so kills are estimated from damage being clipped at the hull's HP, the same rules the Log Parser uses
- Damage dealt and taken: a live chart
- Incoming hit quality: how the shots fired at you landed
- Session totals: NPC kills ≈ and NPC damage
With helper 1.2 and later, the Combat tab in EF-Map's EF Helper panel shows the same view. Use this data to optimize your fits, track your combat performance, and identify patterns in your gameplay.
Today: Your Day So Far
The Today window is a live log of what you did today (mining runs, fights, travel, respawns, cargo hold full) with the day's totals, rebuilt from today's game logs for the active character.
The helper no longer keeps its own history of visited systems. Systems you visited now come from your game logs in the Log Parser, which needs no helper.
Helper Bridge: Desktop Integration
The Helper Bridge is the communication layer that connects EF Helper to the EF-Map web app. It provides:
- Local HTTP API: Query your current status, location, and session data
- WebSocket streams: Real-time updates pushed to connected clients
- Custom protocol handler:
ef-overlay://links open directly in the helper

Integration with EF-Map Web App
EF Helper is designed to work seamlessly with the EF-Map interactive star map. When the helper is running:
- The web app detects the helper automatically
- A "Helper Connected" indicator appears in the UI
- Follow Mode toggle becomes available in the left panel
- The Notes tab in the EF Helper panel syncs with the overlay's Notes window
You can use EF-Map with or without the helper—but with it running, you unlock the full suite of real-time features.
Privacy and Security
EF Helper is designed with privacy as a core principle:
- 100% local processing: All log parsing happens on your machine
- No cloud sync: Your location, combat data, and mining stats are never uploaded
- Usage counts only: the helper counts how often each overlay window is opened, the overlay is shown, bookmarks are added and alerts fire, and EF-Map adds those counts to its anonymous aggregate usage stats (no names, systems, characters or chat)
- No account required: Use EF Helper without creating any account
- Open communication: Helper-to-webapp communication stays on localhost (127.0.0.1)
- Microsoft Store verified: Distributed through official channels with code signing
Note on Game Integration
EF Helper reads publicly accessible log files that EVE Frontier creates. It does not modify game files, inject code into the game process for data extraction, or interact with game servers. The in-game overlay uses standard DirectX rendering techniques similar to other gaming overlays (Discord, Steam, etc.).
Troubleshooting
Helper not detecting game
Ensure EVE Frontier is running and you've entered a solar system (the main menu doesn't generate location logs). Check that EF Helper has access to read files in %LocalAppData%\CCP\EVE Frontier\logs\.
Follow Mode not updating
Verify the helper is running (check system tray). In the web app, ensure Follow Mode is toggled on in the left panel. Try refreshing the browser page to re-establish the WebSocket connection.
Overlay not appearing in-game
The overlay requires EVE Frontier to be running in DirectX 12 mode. Check helper settings to ensure the overlay is enabled. Some fullscreen modes may require running the helper as administrator.
Get Started Today
EF Helper transforms your EVE Frontier experience by bridging the gap between the game client and the EF-Map navigation tools. Whether you're a seasoned explorer, industrial miner, or combat pilot, the helper provides real-time insights that were previously impossible.
